Harakeke t-shaped literacy

For literacy this week we were learning about harakeke. Harakeke is a really cool plant that can be found around New Zealand. It is special to New Zealand because it can be used for medicine and lots of helpful resources. You can find out more about it by looking at my slideshow. It was really fun to learn about harakeke. I hope you like it. Please post a comment on my blog if you do.

Maths Statistics

For maths, me and my buddy Harper worked together to create a statistics chart. My maths teacher Eugene asked us to pick an investigation to do with sports because we were doing athletics soon. We thought it might be good to practise plus sports investigations are fun because people get to exercise. Lots of people choose to do running or biking investigations but we choose how far can kids in our class throw a shot put. To get people to do this we took small groups of three to five at a time. We got them to do a shot put throw,  watched where it landed and then we measured it with roll up measuring tape and wrote how far they got on a piece of paper. The furthest throw we got was 8.46m and the shortest was 3.40m.I learned how to use a tape measure and throw a Shot put properly. It was a really fun thing to do for maths and I really enjoyed it.This is our Bar graph that we made online using the data we gathered. These are the statements we found out. I hope you like it! If you do then please post a helpful, thoughtful or kind comment on my blog.

  1. 5 people could throw the shot-put 3-4 meters.
  2. 3 people could throw the shot-put 7+ meters.
  3. 9 people could throw the shot-put 4-5 meters

I hope you like it. Please post a helpful comment on my blog.

Science Fair

For inquiry this term we have been doing a science Fair here are three simple sentences reflecting on it.

The science Fair was challenging because we did not get lots of time to study our experiments.

The science Fair was challenging but we finished in the end.

The science Fair was challenging and so we had to rush to get our poster finished.
